WHILE MOST of last week's national honours and awards recipients celebrated their accolades with more secular activities, transport giant Charles Moore O.D. spent his day giving thanks to God.
Mr. Moore's family and friends came from far and near to celebrate with him and the heavy evening showers did not prevent over 200 guests from converging on Sterling Castle Church of God in Red Hills St., Andrew, for the praise and worship.
Officiating was Rev. Christopher Hutchinson and master of ceremonies was Leighton McKnight. There were many splendid renditions of gospel music and ballads sung by Cecil Cooper. DiMario McDowell's 'I Did it My Way' received a standing ovation.
Also outstanding was a dramatisation of Proverbs 31 by the Moores' eldest daughter Diane Moore-Eubanks, in tribute to her father and mother who had stood faithfully by his side.
'CHARLIE P'
His other children paid tribute describing him affectionately as, "Charlie P. who cheated death last September when he suffered a mild stroke."
Mrs. Dorothy Dyce, O.D., J.P. also paid tribute to Mr. Moore. For the honoured guest, it was "a warm and humbling experience and I feel gratitude for the love and support of everyone." Guests partook of a sumptuous buffet of fish squares, jerk chicken wings, garlic bread, ackee and callalo quiche, rum and raisin cheese cake and banana rum cake.
Celebrating with Mr. Moore were: Claude Clarke, Vincent Morrison, Verity Rushton, Elsie Pennycooke, Lunville Watt, Mr. and Mrs. Franklyn Reid, Bernie Reid, Sam Reid, Mr and Mrs. Colin Ifill, Doreen Watt-Lee , Lorenzo Campbell O.D. and Clifton Pennycooke.
Mr. Moore remains young at heart, never missing a Thursday nights at Waterfalls.
"Charlie P. has impacted on the lives of many persons, he has sat and dined with royalty and has shared with the common man and has not lost the common touch. He has taught us humility, never be too proud to apologise when you are wrong," said daughter Andrea in a toast to her father on behalf of the siblings.
