Ja places fourth in 'Miss India Global' contest

Chantal Devi McDonald, daughter of insurance executive Cedric McDonald, with local Miss India franchise holder, Lachu Ramchandani, well known Montego Bay businessman. Ms. McDonald placed fourth in the pageant which took place in the United States.

JAMAICA'S REPRESENTATIVE to the Miss India Global beauty contest, Chantal Devi McDonald, emerged fourth at the inaugural pageant held on October 16, in San Francisco.

It was a proud moment for, local Miss India Global franchise holder, businessman Lachu Ramchandani, as he declared, "This truly is a stunningly beautiful group of Indian women with the rare combination of beauty, intelligence, elegance poise and talent. I am exceedingly honoured and overwhelmed with Chantal's tremendous performance in such a tightly contested pageant."

NON-RESIDENT INDIAN WOMEN PAGEANT

Mehru Khan of Pakistan was crowned Miss India Global Non-resident Indian (NRI) with first and second runner up being Miss Malaysia Kanchana Nanda and Miss Rimi Gill of USA .

This is the largest interna-tional pageant for Non-resident Indian women in the world produced and directed by Indiva Productions and I-NRI organisation whose founder is Rennu Dhillon and co-producer is Dr. Jay Patel. Delegates flew in from the United Kingdom, France, the Netherlands, Malaysia, Singapore, Trinidad and Tobago, Canada, Kenya, South Africa and Tanzania.

FIVE-DAY PROGRAMME

The event was a five-day programme commencing October 13, as contestants arrive at San Francisco airport for what they have described as an experience of a lifetime. The five days were spent in training sessions which included: modelling workshops, homeopathy/healthy living, catwalk training, laughter yoga, press interviews, luncheons, and other fun activities with special coverage by TV-Asia. The programme began with a talent showcase on Friday, October 14, at the Newark Hilton Hotel. The delegates competed in four major rounds which include a personality interview behind closed doors two days prior to the event, a fitness segment, self expression and an elegant wear segment. The top five proceeded to the final question and answer round.

The final pageant was hosted at the Santa Clara Convention Centre, and apart from the beautiful finalists, the audience was treated to a colourful and dazzling display of dance and song.
