Hinds breaks 'pinky'
published: Friday | October 28, 2005

BRISBANE, Australia (CMC):

WEST INDIES have suffered an injury setback ahead of next week's opening cricket Test against Australia at the Gabba.

The ambidextrous Wavell Hinds suffered a fracture to his little finger on his left hand while fielding in the visitors' opening tour match against Queensland Bulls yesterday at the Allan Border Field.

The 29-year-old Hinds sustained the injury, when diving at square leg to stop a ball hit by Bulls captain Jimmy Maher in the Queensland first innings.

IMMOBILISED

"Hinds will take no further part in the current game, and will not be considered for selection in the first Test against Australia, starting on November 3," team spokesman Imran Khan said in a news release.

"Hinds will also miss the second warm-up game against Victoria from November 11 to 13, but is expected to be available for the second Test in Hobart from November 17 to 21," Khan added.

The former West Indies vice captain, who can open or bat in the middle-order and bowls back-up medium pace, must keep the finger immobilised for 10 days.
