Teen slain in gun feud
published: Saturday | October 29, 2005

Rasbert Turner, Gleaner Writer

SPANISH TOWN, St. Catherine:

A 13-YEAR-OLD male student of Innswood High School became the 200th victim of gun violence in the bloody St. Catherine North Police Division on Thursday.

He has been identified as Dwight Morris of William Lane, Old Harbour Road, St. Catherine.

Reports are that at 4:00 p.m. Thursday, a man went up to the juvenile, brandished a handgun, put it to his head and said, "a something like this mi a go gi yu fada".

An explosion was heard and the boy collapsed to the ground bleeding. The man then reportedly returned the gun to his waistband and calmly walked away.

According to the St. Catherine North police, the boy's death has cast a curtain of gloom over the community. Sources close to the investigation said the teen's death resulted from an ongoing feud over a gun said to be in the possession of a senior member of his family.

A few hours later, while at the scene of the teen's murder, the police received a call about another murder in the Jobs Lane area. When they arrived, the body of a male, believed to be about 40 years old, was discovered with gunshot wounds to the upper region. The man later died.

The police said the homicides were unrelated.
