PORT-OF-SPAIN (CMC):
TRINIDADIANS ARE being warned to be on guard for a major earthquake.
This warning came Saturday from Acting Director of the Seismic Research Unit at the University of the West Indies (UWI), St. Augustine, Lloyd Lynch.
According to Lynch, "I think the nation can expect a bigger earthquake anytime."
He added, "What we advise people to do is to have some pre-event planning in place. Don't expect to respond without a plan. You need to get a plan and put the measures in place that would help you to respond immediately."
Lynch is advising the public to pick up such a plan from the Office of Disaster Preparedness Management. He added that there are a number of plans, including a family plan, which every household should have.
An earthquake measuring 5.0 on the Richter Scale rocked Trinidad and Tobago at around 6:30 p.m. on Friday, the second to hit the republic in one week.
While people in Port-of-Spain and its environs started screaming and those in offices hid under desks, there were no reports of injuries or damage to property.
