published: Monday | October 31, 2005

KINGSTON, Jamaica (CMC):

THE FOUR new members of the board of directors of International Cricket Council (ICC) Cricket World Cup West Indies 2007 Inc. attended their first board meeting in Trinidad on Thursday, ICC Cricket World Cup (CWC) West Indies Inc. said on Saturday.

Ken Boyea, of St. Vincent and the Grenadines; Sir Royston Hopkin, of Grenada; Jennifer Nero of St. Kitts and Nevis; and Ambassador David Shoul, of Antigua and Barbuda, were warmly welcomed by Ken Gordon, who presided over the meeting in his new role as chairman.

"The meeting proved very positive and fruitful," said Gordon afterwards, while highlighting the 'upbeat mood' and the 'excellent contributions' of the new and continuing directors.

"We are happy to have reconvened and to recommit ourselves to moving forward in a very focused and decisive manner regarding this landmark event the ICC Cricket World Cup 2007 whose success is of paramount importance to the Caribbean," said the chairman, who is also President of the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB).

ON TRACK

"We are on track to deliver the ICC Cricket World Cup to the stipulated international standards and we will remain focused on that serious commitment to the region and the global cricketing community."

During the six-hour proceedings, managing director of ICC CWC WI 2007 Inc., Chris Dehring, presented his report to the board, citing solid progress in all areas, including security, venue development and the drafting and enactment of sunset legislation. It was also noted that Venue Summit VII and other key meetings will be held in Barbados next week, involving a record number of participants.
