Rivoli edge slow starting Wadadah
published: Monday | October 31, 2005

Rasbert Turner, Gleaner Writer

SPANISH TOWN:

GOALS BY Kemar Mills and Devon Hodges carried Rivoli United to a 2-1 victory over Wadadah in their Wray & Nephew National Premier League football match at Spanish Town Prison Oval yesterday.

The match, which was played on a very wet outfield that had puddles of water on it, saw Rivoli taking the lead in the second minute when Hodges latched onto a cross by Ricardo Knight and headed the ball into the goal.

Oliver Trail equalised in the 11th minute for Wadadah after losing his marker to get in a right-footed shot that gave the keeper no chance.

The 1-1 scoreline at the half-time interval changed quickly upon the resumption as in the 46th minute, Mills latched onto a high ball in the Wadadah area and headed home.

PLAYING WITH PURPOSE

Both teams started to play with more purpose afterwards but faulty finishes, some enabled by the wet underfoot conditions which had players slipping and sliding all over the place, affected either team.

Rivoli, however, seemed to want to win the game more than their counterparts as they played a more defined game with intentional passing, while Wadadah kept kicking the ball all over the place.

Harold Thomas, coach of Rivoli, said he was pleased with the result.

"If we played like this we would have more than 10 points now. We always play good football but the score never reflects the effort. So this will go down well with the players. I hope they are motivated by this result," Thomas added of his team which moved to 10 points.

Anthony "Follies" Williams, Wadadah's coach, said his players gave up goals at critical times of the match.

"When you play a match and your opponents score in the second minute of both halves then you must lose the match and moreover, persons that we put to play forward were playing all over the field. That's why we lost the match. We are still on 11 points and hope to win against Seba come Wednesday."

GOALSHEET

Rivoli 2

Kemar Mills 2nd, Devon Hodges 46th

Wadadah 1

Oliver Trail 11th
