THE OFFICIAL press launch of the Freestay Caribbean Programme took place at the Hilton Kingston in September, under the distinguished patronage of Tourism and Industry Minister Aloun Assamba. Endorsements were made by the Jamaica Hotel & Tourist Association, the Port Authority, the Florida Caribbean Cruise Association and the Jamaica Tourist Board.

At the launch, Corah Ann Robertson-Sylvester, chief executive officer of Seaboard Marine, said: "This launch is a significant milestone for Seaboard Marine and Jamaica."

She explained that the concept of the Freestay Caribbean Programme is to entice cruise ship passengers who visit the Caribbean to return for land-based vacations.

Seaboard Marine is the main sponsor for the introduction of the Freestay Caribbean to Jamaica. Seaboard's commitment to the programme is directly aligned with the company's commitment to become a proactive player in the development and sustainability of Jamaica's vital tourist industry.

Responding to the query "What does shipping cargo have to do with tourism?" Mrs. Robertson-Sylvester emphasised the ties between shipping cargo and tourism, saying, "When more tourists come to Jamaica, this means more income, an improved economy and more international trade. For that reason, Seaboard Marine stands entirely dedicated to the cause of the Freestay Caribbean Programme and is proud of the partnership made."
