King scores in Watford win
published: Tuesday | November 1, 2005

KING

DUNDEE, Scotland, CMC:

JAMAICA INTERNATIONAL Marlon King and Trinidad and Tobago's Collin Samuel scored for their teams while earning contrasting results in British football this past weekend.

Samuel netted a first half goal for Dundee United as they dipped to a 4-2 loss to Celtic in the Scottish Premier league (SPL), while south of the border, King got one of Watford's goals as they knocked off Wolverhampton 3-1 in the English League Championship.

Watford recorded their seventh win of the season when they outscored Wolves at Vicarage Road Stadium to stay among the top flight in the English League Championship (Division One).

Rising star Ashley Young assisted on all three goals for Jay DeMerit, King and Paul Devlin, in Watford's win.

King got his goal in the 77th minute when Young touched Matthew Spring's chipped pass into the path of the Reggae Boy, who fired his shot into the net via a deflection off Jody Craddock.

The win took Watford to 26 points and fourth place.

In Scotland's premier league, Chris Sutton's fourth minute own goal from a Barry Robson corner gave the home side Dundee an early lead but John Hartson equalised in the 17th minute with a fine strike.

Then there was a four-goal blitz near the half-hour mark.

Sutton put the Glasgow giants ahead in the 28th minute and Samuel equalised almost immediately before United defender Alan Archibald then deflected a Bobo Balde header into his own net to restore the visitors' lead at 3-2.

Samuel's effort was a fine strike.

Peter Canero played the ball to him just inside the Celtic penalty area and the 24-year-old T&T striker quickly turned past defender Stephen McManus and unleashed a powerful shot past a goalkeeper Artur Boruc.

Substitute Stephen Pearson scored the fourth goal with two minutes remaining for the 4-2 scoreline to take visiting Celtic to the top of the SPL standings - above Hearts with a superior goal difference.
