THE EDITOR, Sir:
LAST WEDNESDAY on my way to work, in the vicinity of the traffic lights by the Caymanas Crossing, along the Mandela Highway, I ended up in water that eventually went right through my car, a very small Coure, and it stalled. I got out and locked it up but a gentleman heading towards Kingston (in the standstill traffic) with a few guys in the back in yellow raincoats told me to go back. Two of the men from the truck came and they pushed the car out of the water. I did not get names but I would like to say thanks to those guys.
Before they left another gentleman drove up and offered to tow me back to Spanish Town and so I was hooked up to his vehicle. Just before we got to the Police Academy/Staff College at Twickenham Park, we pulled over and I was told to open the bonnet. This gentleman then made a call and it was then I realised that he was a policeman (plain clothes) on his way to work. He proceeded to open and dry the alternator and was shortly after joined by two other uniformed officers. They said they were there to serve and protect and they opened the bungs of the car to let the water out, told and showed me why the car stalled, made sure it was running properly, and put me back on the road. All this while showing good humour.
I say a BIG thanks to Cpl. Elliot (the tower), Cpl. J. Jackson and Cpl. B. Allen of the Police Motor Driving School.
I am, etc.,
