Foreseeing the storm
published: Thursday | November 3, 2005

THE EDITOR, Sir:

IT IS crazy that even in death Bulbie is still in command of the gathering storm, hence the forced lockdown of the Old Capital by the Clansman-controlled crowd.

Just as it is certain that night will follow day, so sure was it that Spanish Town would erupt in disorder resulting from the death of its notorious gang leader. Don't tell me that it never dawned on the security forces, or better yet, on the country's leaders that there would be unrest in Spanish Town.

I have a hard time believing that those in authority could be so unconcerned and shortsighted that they couldn't see the debacle coming.

For Bulbie to be on the police 'most wanted' list and still living in the eyes of the public, while forcing the residents of St. Catherine and its environs to feast on a daily diet of death, destruction and extortion while he lived lavishly, spending millions on real estate, apparel and fine dining for the better part of 10 years unperturbed, is disturbing. This tells a damning story of the inefficiency of our security forces.

I am, etc.,

D. ANTHONY WILLIAMS
