NEW YORK, CMC: WHILE CONTROVERSY swirls around the candidacy of Texas billionaire Dumarsais Simeus in Haiti's forthcoming general elections, the candidate says he would stamp out corruption if elected president.

Castro rejects US hurricane aid offer
HAVANA, (Reuters): CUBA SCOFFED at a U.S. offer of $100,000 in assistance for Cuban hurricane victims yesterday, saying the money was apparently destined for opposition groups on the communist-run island.
