THE REGISTRAR General's Department (RGD) is no longer accepting applications signed by JPs where the required seal is not attached. The move, which took effect on November 1, comes as the RGD further implements measures to improve the security of its operations.
This requirement will affect customers seeking to do late registration, late entry of name, correction of error and addition of father's particulars. The RGD explained that these procedures are record updating activities and usually require a JP or notary public's signature and seal to validate the signature of the applicants, or declarants in the cases where a statutory declaration is required.
"Newly-appointed JPs, who may not have the necessary seals and wish for the RGD to use their signature as a JP, may communicate with the custos of the relevant parishes," the agency explained.
This is the second time since the start of the year that the RGD has introduced measures to further improve security systems, in a bid to prevent fraudulent attempts "to create similar documents." In January, the agency introduced the printing of no-impediment certificates on security paper only. No-impediment certificates are official documents issued by the RGD to verify martial status.
