THE CONCRETE two-bedroom house where Glenda Simpson and her children lived on July Road, in August Town, St. Andrew, was abandoned yesterday, hours after the 32-year-old housewife was killed by a group of gunmen who invaded her home Sunday night.
Her death has sent a wave of shock across a community where the blood of several persons has been spilled over the past four weeks. The victims include a prominent area leader, 38-year-old Neil Wright.
OTHER MEN KILLED
Reports are that Wright and three other men from Goldsmith Villa, were shot on November 3.
It is alleged that they had gone to discuss aspects of the conflict between rival gangs, when they were shot. Wright died on the spot.
Marcus Green, 23, of Byrce Hill Lane, was another victim. He was killed on November 11. He was found at his house with gunshot wounds.
Up to yesterday afternoon, senior detectives probing Ms. Simpson's death were unable to give a motive for the killing.
Inspector Charles Lewis and a team were sitting outside the August Town Police Station, when Ms. Simpson passed them, on her way home, about 12 metres from the station.
"About five minutes after she passed, we heard a barrage of gunshots," Inspector Edwards said. "We responded immediately, but the police were fired on by a group of heavily-armed gunmen who were hiding in the August Town Primary School."
The police theorise that Ms. Simpson is another victim of the ongoing feud in the area.
