24 years of Movements
published: Wednesday | November 16, 2005

THE EDITOR, Sir:

IN THE 24 years of the existence of Movements Dance Company of Jamaica, I have tried to maintain a policy of taking all comments in stride.

I have an abiding faith in the wisdom of the audience which sees the production annually, appreciates it and keeps coming back. This is what really matters in the growth and development of any creative and artistic enterprise such as a dance company.

The Jamaican public has, over the years, acclaimed the concept, execution, and high level of production, skills and artistry, which have become the hallmark of Movements Dance Company of Jamaica. This year was no different and, in fact, there are those who contend that the bar was raised much higher to a level worthy of any international stage.

After all these years, people still continue to ask what has kept Movements Dance Company of Jamaica going and growing from strength to strength, not missing a season in 24 years, despite the vicissitudes of life. It is simply a resilience and deep faith in the knowledge that when you give back your talents for a greater good in sincerity and humility, nothing can take away the light; the light of truth and the blessings of success.

It is the overwhelming responses of our audiences who come year after year to see our offerings. It is the entire fraternity of young and old, dancers, non-dancers, dance teachers, dance aficionados and even the leaders of other companies.

Next year, Movements Dance Company of Jamaica will celebrate 25 years with a series of activities and a line-up that will take us to new heights.

I am, etc.,

MONICA CAMPBELL

MCFARLANE

Artistic Director
