THE EDITOR, Sir:
THE STORY of the untimely, brutal and painful death of Sasha-Kay and her family will live on in the hearts and minds of all of us - those who read about it and those neighbours who heard her frightened cries and were unable, unwilling or afraid to help her.
This has started a new and chilling chapter in Jamaica's history. My hope is that this tragedy will serve as a rallying cry to all decent Jamaicans, both here and abroad, to some action. We all must agree that the crime is out of control, and we must reclaim our country from the hooligans who try to intimidate and rule through fear.
Shame on all the mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, neighbours and friends who turn a blind eye and give refuge to these criminals. They should be ashamed to be in the presence of these parasites and are no better than the predators.
It is time to show the hoodlums that the decent people of Jamaica will not live in fear of reprisals, but will root out and excise this evil that threatens to destroy us all. God bless our beautiful island and its people.
I am, etc.,
