THE TRIAL of the three policemen charged with the murder of 15-year-old Jason Kemar Smith, of Spanish Town, St. Catherine, will continue in the Home Circuit Court today.
On trial are Corporal Rudolph Rhoden, Constable Dwight Roberts and Special Constable Linton Pascoe.
The Crown is alleging at the trial, which is being presided over by Justice Marva McIntosh, that Smith was murdered on July 9, 2002.
SAW A BOY RUN
Two witnesses testified that about 7:30 p.m. on July 9, 2002, while they were at their stalls at the corner of Burke and Oxford roads in Spanish Town, they heard explosions. The street lights were on and they said they saw a boy run into an empty stall. Shortly after some policemen dressed in blue uniforms came up and asked where the boy was.
A crowd gathered and the witnesses said the policemen took out the little boy, threw him into a jeep and drove away with him.
Under cross-examination, one of the witnesses said that after the police left, she saw a black scandal bag on the ground in the stall where the boy was. The bag contained a bag juice drink and banana chips.
The Crown is being represented by Delano Harrison, Q.C., and attorney-at-law Arlene Harrison-Henry, who got a fiat from the Director of Public Prosecutions to prosecute the case. Lisa Palmer, assistant Director of Public Prosecutions, and Vaughn Smith, Crown Counsel, are also prosecuting.
Attorneys-at-law Anthony Pearson and Pierre Rogers are representing the policemen.
