THE OPTIMIST Club of Christiana celebrated its third anniversary at an awards and installation banquet in the auditorium of the Holmwood Technical High School recently.
During an installation of officers, Mrs. E. Shaun-Smith was inducted as the new president and received a symbolic gavel of office from outgoing president Kevin Grant. This was witnessed by Caribbean District Governor, Adrian el Cock from Barbados, who had arrived in the island specifically for the anniversary.
"I congratulate and urge you to continue to make your contribution for a better society and as change agents, teach the pessimists of this country who say there is no hope for change," Dennis Hickley, marketing and public relations manager of the City of Kingston Credit Union, said.
Mr. Hickey, who was the guest speaker, urged the 35-member club to collectively identify programmes intended to instil positive values and attitudes and guide the youths to successful living, civic mindedness, entrepreneurship and vision.
Secretary of the club, Karen Bennett, received an award for being the most outstanding member of the club for the year. A long and impressive list of the club's contributions to youth was also delivered.
