Medecus fêtes brokers
published: Friday | November 18, 2005

Daviot Kelly, Staff Reporter

At Left: Chairman and CEO of GraceKennedy, Douglas Orane, shares a joke with chairman of Medecus Health Insurance Agency, Audrey Hinchcliffe, at the company's broker appreciation dinner, held at Manor Park Drive, St. Andrew, last Thursday. At Right:(From left) Meghon Miller-Brown, director of Medecus Health Insurance Agency; Basil Monteith, CEO of Spectrum Insurance Brokers, and Errol Mighty, CEO of Firm Insurance Brokers, in conversation at Medecus' broker appreciation dinner last week Thursday.

THE MANAGEMENT and staff of Medecus Health Insurance Agency Ltd. treated its brokers at an appreciation dinner last week Thursday.

If you've never heard of Medecus that's understandable. The company has only been around since July 1 of this year. The company is the product of a union (and brilliant idea) between Guardian Life and GraceKennedy. Though not even six months old, 35 clients have signed up and CEO Dennis Orgill is optimistic things will get even better, very quickly.

"We expect to be one of the premier health insurance carriers," he stated in a confident manner, with perhaps an inkling of tongue-in-cheek humour. Orgill knows the Jamaican insurance landscape quite well, as he worked at Life of Jamaica for 17 years before moving to the United States. And if he needs any help in how to run a successful business, he has Audrey Hinchcliffe as chairman.

But without the insurance brokers, the task won't be easy. So president of Guardian Life, Earl Moore, opened his Manor Park home to host a dinner for those persons who have helped Medecus get off to a good start.
