Reggae Girlz on the march
published: Friday | November 18, 2005

Paul-Andre Walker, Staff Reporter

WHILE THE Soca Warriors continue to bask in the glory of World Cup qualification, Jamaica's Under-20 women footballers (Reggae Girlz) have taken a giant step towards getting to next year's Under-20 World Championships in Russia next September.

The Jamaicans made the leap into the final qualifying round with a 2-0 defeat of Suriname in Trinidad and Tobago on Tuesday.

Venecia Reid and Omalyn Davis led the scoring for the Reggae Girls, who went into yesterday's final game against Haiti at the Larry Gomes Stadium in Malabar already through to the final round.

Showing a no-holds barred attitude, the Reggae Girlz never let up in their final game, clipping Haiti 1-0 in a match-up that was only of mathematical importance.

At the end of the tournament, Jamaica Football Federation President Crenston Boxhill lauded the performance of the girls but indicated they still had a far way to go.
