Kaydeon Tobin displays her glass nails topped with glitter acrylic done by nail technician Nicodia Richards of Total Beauty Care, Shop # 16 Central Plaza Constant Spring Road.
THIS CHRISTMAS, why not do something special for yourself and care those hands that were used to care for others throughout the year?
Manicures are great but go a step further and really jazz up your hands. Flair went on the prowl for the latest and hottest in nail technology and came back soothed by the gel, loving the reflection of the glass and comforted by the familiar aroma of acrylic.
Colour acrylic: This is the new favourite; just put them on in the colour of your choice and you're already a hit, or change the colour by painting them over in any design your heart desires.
Glass: Want your nails to look as natural as possible? Then the glass is definitely for you. These transparent tips won't tell if you don't that they are not yours.
The Gel: The new method is receiving rave reviews but does not do well in temperate climates such as ours. Instead of using the acrylic to which you would have to apply a top coat you can use the gel. It also requires less buffing. Like the acrylic, it also comes in a variety of colours. After application it is dried under an ultra violet lamp.
CARE AND MAINTENANCE
Whether your nails are acrylic, glass or gel there are general rules of care.
Always keep your hands and nails clean
Apply cuticle oil or cream at least two-three times per week for nourishment and moisture. This will dry and crack cuticle
Nails are 'jewels not tools' therefore do not use your nails as an opener or any other tool.
If a fungus appears on or under your nails consult a doctor.
You may clean off top coat from time to time with acetone free polish remover; gently use a block buffer to buff before applying a fresh coat of top coat.
Do not soak your nails for long periods in water or any liquid as they will become loose. Try to use latex gloves when working in water or any solution.
When the acrylic starts to lift, crack or grow out consult your technician immediately because, if left unattended moisture and dirt become trapped under the nail and fungus begins to grow.
Do not bite your nails or pick at the acrylic or wrap.
Do not allow more than three or four weeks without having your nails filled or removed. After this time period, the product will start to lift and may breed infection and also tips get heavy and may result in damage to your natural nails.
When removing extensions, either return to your technician to have them soaked off properly or ask her advice prior to doing it.
