Double standards
published: Monday | November 21, 2005

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I CONTINUE to wonder if any of Mr. Patterson's relatives were in a house fire-bombed, and surrounded by gunmen, and neighbours ran to soldiers nearby for help, would they refuse to assist, saying that they cannot without the presence of the police.

While a ten-year-old poor Jamaican girl inside the house bawled for help, her voice got faint as the minutes went by, until death. Oh Jamaica, land of my birth, double standards, prejudice, classism, intellectual morass, hypocrites. Oh what a tangled web we weave when, especially the poor people we try to deceive. No wonder Jamaica is in its present position.

I am, etc.,
