Draw puts Arnett Gardens in a rut

FIRST ROUND champions Arnett Gardens played their third straight game without a win yesterday when they were held 1-1 by Seba United at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex in the Wray and Nephew National Premier League.

Kwame Richardson put Arnett in the lead in the 11th minute before Seba's Norman Foster equalised from the penalty spot in the 22nd.

After completing the first round with six wins from 11 games, Arnett lost to Waterhouse in the Premiership last Sunday and were booted out of the Jackie Bell knockout by Cavalier on Wednesday. The absence of Kevin Wilson due to suspension has also left their game tactics wanting.

"The application wasn't there today," said coach Michael Tulloch of Arnett's performance. "We needed to get three points and this (draw) is really taking us away from where we want to be because we're falling back in the standings."

Arnett are in fourth position on 21 points and Seba are second from bottom on 10. Arnett took the lead on a counter attack which involved Conry Hall, Trisando Grant and Richardson. After dispossessing his counterpart, Hall weaved a pass along the right side to Grant whose cross was well placed for Richardson in the box.

TRAP

Moments later, Arnett gambled and lost on an offside trap. Their failed attempt left Andrew Morrison in the penalty box challenging goalkeeper Shane Mattis. Mattis resorted to pulling Morrison to the ground but Foster rewarded his teammate by converting from the spot.

Seba seemed complacent with a tied game in the second half. Their attacking did not reflect that of a relegation-zone team in dire need of three points.

Nonetheless, coach Heron Grey said he was satisfied with the team's performance and added that there will be a marked improvement in the team by the next three games.

"We had four new players in the squad because of injury to some players so it's going to be a while before they start working well together," Grey said. "I'll give it about three more games."

In the Under-21 league game played before the Premiership clash, Arnett Gardens thrashed Seba 5-1.
