MEXICO CITY (AP):

MEXICO'S LONGTIME presi-dential front-runner, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, is suddenly in a close race with conservative candidate Felipe Calderon, according to a poll published yesterday.

According to the survey conducted by Grupo Reforma, Lopez Obrador of the leftist Democratic Revolution Party was favoured by 29 per cent while 28 per cent backed Calderon of President Vicente Fox's National Action Party, putting them into a statistical tie.

Roberto Madrazo of the Institutional Revolutionary Party was favoured by 21 per cent.

The poll had a margin of error of 2.5 percentage points and covered 1,515 people across Mexico between November 11 to 14. During the survey, 13 per cent of respondents said they did not know who they would vote for.
