( L - R )BERNARD AND DONALDSON
MARVA BERNARD is set to become the next president of the Jamaica Netball Association (JNA) as Sharon Donaldson has decided not to seek re-election at the next Annual General Meeting (AGM) set for December 10.
Donaldson, who took office two years ago from Molly Rhone, told The Gleaner that "work commitment" was the reason why she decided to relinquish the post.
Meanwhile it is understood that Bernard, the JNA treasurer, is the only person who has been nominated for the presidential position by the JNA Council. However, she did not comment much on that electoral procedure.
"I refuse to comment on the matter, but I promise to divulge any information after the 10th (of December)," Bernard told The Gleaner.
Bernard got involved in netball in 1973, as the manager of the Air Jamaica netball team for over 21 years. She became treasurer of the Business House Netball Association (BHNA) in 1990 and served three years in that capacity before taking up the position as treasurer of the JNA in 1993 - a post she still holds.
APPOINTMENTS
Bernard has managed both the junior and senior national teams on tours and in 1999 she was appointed director of finance of the International Federation of Netball Associations (IFNA).
In 2002 she served as a member of Jury of Appeal for the sport of netball to the Commonwealth Games in Manchester, England and in 2005 a member of Jury of Appeal at the World Youth Netball Championships in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
