Wadadah bitter at 0-1 defeat
published: Tuesday | November 22, 2005

WADADAH COACH Anthony 'Follies" launched a scathing attack on referee Victor Stewart, blaming his indiscretions for visitors Boys' Town's ability to drive away with three points from Jarrett Park on Sunday night, after edging home team Wadadah 1-0 at Jarrett Park in the Wray and Nephew National Premier League.

Boys' Town owed their victory to a trio of substitutes, but it was Garfield Rennicks who provided the finishing touch in time added to the second half.

It was a cruel way for Wadadah to fall as just seconds before they had a call for penalty turned down when substitute Olivier Sewell was brought down inside the 18-yard box.

BOYS' TOWN GAME

"It is simple. This referee gave Boys' Town the game. I think the JFF (Jamaica Football Federation) needs to look at Victor Stewart. He gave Boys' Town the game because it was a clear penalty call with three minutes of extra time to go," a bitter Williams said at the end of the game.

"This referee has an agenda. It is day in and day out that but that said, I think it was a good game. I think that we did well and deserved at least a point out of the game but there is nothing you can do when the referee has an agenda," he added.

LUCK WIN

Boys' Town's Andrew Price admitted that his team was lucky to come away with full points and was thankful.

"We were a bit fortunate but it was about time that some luck ran our way because we have played well in several games and come away with nothing.

"It is good to steal these three points in Montego Bay we are really happy and elated and just want to build from here going forward," said Price."Basically we just wanted the team to stay out there and be competitive for as long as possible because we knew that towards the end of the game Wadadah would tire. We knew we were in good physical condition. Once it came down to the death in the last 15 minutes we knew that we had those extra legs so we put in the extra legs and to try and make a change," he added, giving credit to the substitutes.

While Wadadah may feel that they were hard done by the officials, the truth is that they had only themselves to blame for losing. After a forgettable first half, both teams lifted their game with Wadadah creating the better chances.

POWER SHOT

They should have found the back of the net on at least three occasions but Sewell fired wide from inside the box with the net almost empty, Socrates Christie struck the crossbar with a volley in the 87th minute, and Rohan Reid went for power instead of placement as he broke free inside the box. His shot almost cut the right upright in two.

But while Wadadah squandered their opportunities Boys' Town made use of theirs. Substitute Ricardo Munroe had just entered the field in time added when he made a decisive play, sending fellow substitute Troy Dawes free down the left flank. Dawes motored down the flank and crossed as Zico Herrera closed him down.

Collecting the ball to the right of the goal in a side on position, Rennicks drifted inside and curled a left-footer past Gavine Barrett whose view was blocked by one of his defenders.
