BLACK RIVER, St. Elizabeth:
FARMERS WHO suffer from pennial drought problems in St. Elizabeth, Jamaica are to receive assistance through a drip irrigation project being undertaken by the Rural Agricultural Development Authority (RADA).
Howard Hinds, RADA's St. Elizabeth parish manager, said that a number of areas in northern and southern St. Elizabeth were already benefiting from the project. "The drip irrigation system is one of the projects that we have been putting alot of effort because it is important to agriculture in the parish," Mr. Hinds said.
Donald Blackwood, a papaya farmer, said his farm has been benefiting from using the drip irrigation system for more than five years. He said that this method of irrigation works well in some aspect of large scale farming.
"A lot of farmers have been benefiting from this and more farmers with small or medium size farms will benefit greatly," Mr. Blackwood said.
