THE EDITOR, Sir:
I MUST protest the contents of the article in the November 22 Gleaner headlined 'Golding's tenure in the Jamaica Labour Party(JLP) still tenuous'. The writer has used a simple answer to a question posed to launch an attack against the Leader of the Opposition.
On the telephone he asked of me the JLP's position on the Don Anderson poll. The answer was simply, "The party has not discussed it and may do so at its standing committee meeting." Indeed there was no discussion on the matter as it was not seen as credible enough to justify valuable time. To state, therefore, that, "The Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) was last night expected to discuss its leader, Bruce Golding's sagging performance in recent opinion polls" is at best mischievous.
LEADERSHIP DEMONSTRATED
The fact of the matter is that the JLP is totally satisfied with the leadership demonstrated by Bruce Golding. He has brought a sense of unity, loyalty and a feeling of belonging to party members, which has not existed within the party for a long time. His demonstrated knowledge, proficiency and capability continues to impress audiences locally, regionally and internationally. We are very proud of his leadership.
Clearly balanced against the probabilities for leadership of the PNP, he must be seen as the best person to lead the country and bring relief to the suffering of Jamaicans who are totally fed up with the present ineffective, defective and corrupt administration.
I am, etc.,
