A better tree for the park
published: Friday | November 25, 2005

THE EDITOR, Sir:

AS CHRISTMAS approaches, it will be the third year that Emancipation Park will procure a Christmas tree for the park. Many persons, including myself, feel that the park's Christmas tree has failed to live up to the world-class image of the park.

For the past two Christmases, the tree has been a tall, leaning tower of shame. Added to that, it is decorated with a form of disorder that can only serve well for a box of potpourri.

I would prefer no tree be used, if it cannot be done well. I would implore the park managers (National Housing Trust authorities) to ensure that the process is done to at least mirror the decoration standards used in many of our plazas across the island.

Ironically, the park managers do not have to go far to gain inspiration, as Christmas decorations around the perimeter of the park are quite aesthetic - it's just the Christmas tree that is a sore on the eyes.

I am, etc.,
