Late lapse costs Boys' Town again

BOYS' TOWN, not for the first time this season, gave up a late equaliser in Wray and Nephew National Premier League action against Constant Spring at the Spring Complex yesterday.

Boys' Town, who had the better of the early exchanges, found the back of the net in the 21st minute through Garfield Rennicks. Rennicks' strike was cancelled in the 89th minute by a fortuitous goal from Collin Brown.

In truth both goals were a little lucky in a game that begged for a clinical striker to make it into a good affair.

Rennicks was the beneficiary of a gift, courtesy of a Marvin Morgan cross that was poorly dealt with by Constant Spring's Emeil Thomas.

ERROR

Thomas watched the swerving delivery from the right side of the field go across him without making any contact and Rennicks capitalised before the defender could correct his error.

Not long after Constant Spring could have gotten back into the game when Denzil Mitchell beat Kirk Porter to a ball and lobbed him. However, good defending from Wavell Williams saved the day, as he cleared the goal bound ball from the line.

In the second-half Constant Spring came into their own and put Boys' Town on the back foot.

While that was true and they produced a good chance when Brown headed into the path of Nigel Reid, who miskicked from 12 yards away, it was Boys' Town who were guilty of not putting away the game.

When substitute Troy Dawes came on for Boys' Town he produced some fine passing with Michael Campbell, who for some reason, didn't put on his goalscoring shoes.

FATE

It was as if fate would have it that Constant Spring weren't to go away empty handed as Boys' Town colluded to give them a share of the points.

An innocuous ball that was played long came to substitute Jerome Taylor, who made a meal of a back pass to Porter.

While the pass was too soft, Porter did get to it ahead of a chasing Brown.

However, Porter's panicked clearance, wound up in the back of the net after rebounding off Brown.

After the game Constant Spring's coach Danny Lyn said the result was a fitting one.

"Both goals came from defensive errors. Both teams gave up goals. It was a game of few chances and so a 1-1 draw was justified," said Lyn.

While Boys' Town's assistant coach, Delroy Delisser, was bitterly disappointed at his team's failure to take three points.

"This is a disappointment for Boys' Town. Anytime you don't make use of your chances you will suffer the consequences, we have to be more disciplined," said Delisser.

GOALSHEET

Constant Spring 1

Collin Brown 89

Boys' Town 1

Garfield Rennicks 21.
