TWO GOALS by Irvino English led Waterhouse to a convincing 4-0 whipping of Seba United in their Wray and Nephew National Premier League match at
the Waterhouse Mini Stadium yesterday.
English opened the scoring in the 36th minute with a torrid 30-yard shot that took a slight deflection off the head of Venton Evans and sailed past the hapless goalkeeper, Alrick Henry.
Waterhouse's lead was doubled after referee Peter Prendergast awarded the home team a penalty in the 68th minute for hand ball and English easily convert to make it 2-0.
Substitutes Kevin Lamey and Demar Phillips completed the rout in the 81st and 87th minutes, giving new sponsor Paul Laidlaw, president of Insurance Company of the West Indies, a lot to cheer about.
Lamey received an early Christmas gift when the goalkeeper kicked the ball straight to him and he promptly controlled, took a step forward and fired home from the edge of the box, while Phillips latched on to a Roberto Fletcher cross to head home powerfully.
ONE BEHIND LEADERS
Waterhouse leapfrogged the idle Portmore United into second spot in the standings on 25 points behind runaway leaders Harbour View and just ahead of Trelawny-based Village United on 24 points.
Winning coach, Calvin Fitzgerald of Waterhouse, said his team played well but could have kept it a little tighter in defence.
"They got a few half chances and we should have scored at least two more goals. Our aim was to wipe off the deficit to have a plus on the goalscoring sheet," said Fitzgerald.
SEBA STRUGGLE CONTINUES
Newly-promoted Seba United continue to struggle, suffering their eighth loss of the season from 14 outings to be second from bottom on 10 points.
Heron Gray, coach of the St. James-based Seba, thought his team started out well before losing focus.
"The first part of the first half we were doing really well but after a couple of bad calls it started to affect the guys on the field," said Gray.
Gray, who is deputising for the ill Paul 'Tegat' Davis, said he has three games to turn things around for the ailing Seba.
"I asked for three games to turn things around and this is the first one and I am going back to the drawing board. These guys are willing to work," he added.
