Veronica Campbell confirmed for Norwich meet
published: Tuesday | November 29, 2005

CAMPBELL

JAMAICA'S OLYMPIC Games 200m champion Veronica Campbell has been confirmed to run in next February's Norwich Union Grand Prix, Britain's premier indoor meeting, in Birmingham.

According to a report posted on the IAAF website yesterday Campbell, who won double gold at the Athens Olympics to add to her 100m bronze , will first run the 60-metre at the Norwich Union International in Glasgow on January 28.

Athens Olympic gold medallist and world champion over 400 metres, Tonique Williams-Darling from the Bahamas and Russia's World and Olympic pole vault champion Yelena Isinbayeva, who is also 'World Athlete of the Year', have also confirmed for the meet.

Williams will compete in the 400m in Glasgow and the Norwich Union Grand Prix in Birmingham.

Isinbayeva, who is the overall IAAF world ranked number one athlete, could top the $300,000 mark in world record bonuses achieved at United Kingdom meetings when she competes in Birmingham.

The 23-year-old will attempt her eighth world record in U.K. Athletics' events at the National Indoor Arena meeting on February 18.

"The British meetings have always been good to me, and I seem to perform well whenever I go there. The crowds always get right behind me, which makes it easier to achieve those World record heights," Isinbayeva told the IAAF website.

She claimed her first in Gateshead two and a half years ago.

Overall, Isinbayeva has a total of 19 world records (including outdoor and indoor marks) to her credit during her career.
