Prime Minister's gender not relevant

THE EDITOR, Sir:
THE QUESTION of whether or not Jamaica is ready for a female prime minister is a shortsighted and irrelevant one. The primary question ought to be 'which candidate, from either the JLP or PNP, is best suited to lead Jamaica at this time?'. Whether that person is male or female has little significance insofar as leading the nation is concerned.
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF ITC
Pat Francis, outgoing president of JAMPRO, was recently appointed executive director of the International Trading Center (ITC). She was the only female candidate amongst 11 others candidates and became the first female executive director of the ITC. Her appointment was not due to her gender, but because of her sterling qualifications and track record of accomplishments.
JLP and PNP delegates and parliamentarians should choose the candidate from their respective parties whom they feel is best suited to lead the country, based upon his/her qualifications and past track record.
