JAMAICA'S PORTMORE United are going into today's second leg of their Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Champions Cup semi-final series against SV Centro Deportivo Barber with a handsome advantage after whipping the local side 3-1 in their first leg match at the Ergilio Hato Stadium on Wednesday night.
Portmore got a double from national youth star Steve Morrisey after Grenada international Anthony Modeste had given them an early lead.
Oscar Molina netted for CV Centro Deportivo Barber in the first half.
The second-leg will be played at the same venue today.
Team captain Modeste, who scored a penalty in Portmore's 2-0 win over Rivoli in a National Premier League (NPL) game at home on Monday, netted a second goal in consecutive matches when he scored against the Dutch Antilles side after only four minutes.
Morrisey got the first of his two strikes in the 28th minute and Molina gave his side hope with a 39th minute goal.
But Portmore extended their 2-1 half time lead when Morrisey scored in the last minute to give his side a considerable advantage going into the weekend 's second-leg decider.
The Portmore United-SV Centro Social Deportivo Barber winner will meet Suriname's SV Robinhood in the CFU final later this month with the victorious team progressing to the 2006 CONCACAF Champions' Cup quarter-final series.
The CFU winners' assignment in their opening game of the Champions Cup series will be against Mexico's Club América.
Portmore qualified for the semis after a
10-0 whipping of Antiguan side Hoppers FC, while Deportivo Barber moved into the last four by eliminating another Antiguan team, Bassa FC.
