August Town, Santos in Super feature
published: Saturday | December 3, 2005

Howard Walker, Staff Reporter

Maverley's Wayne Palmer

AUGUST TOWN will tackle Santos in today's feature of six Jamaica National/KSAFA Super League games at the UWI Bowl at 3:30 pm.

In the other encounters, Maverley/Hughenden take on Bull Bay at Maverley Park; Police National host Mountain View United at Barbican; Meadhaven United versus Barbican at Campion College; Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) march to Tinson Pen to challenge Greenwich Town and Rae Town welcome Shortwood at Breezy Castle.

The KSAFA Major League and Syd Bartlett competitions are also on in full force. In the top-of-the-table Super League clash, the Chris Zaidie-coached August Town sit atop the standings with maximum nine points from three games, two ahead of Santos, setting up an intriguing encounter.

OF TO A SLOW START

Last year's beaten finalist, Bull Bay, struggling in 10th position on two points, are off to a slow start and will be hoping to get things right against Maverley/Hughenden.

But Maverley, with former national midfielder Wayne Palmer, are currently lying third on seven points and will have other ideas, as they are hoping that the top teams slip up to grab pole position.

Police National, last year's Major League champions, are in fourth position on five points and could conolidate their position with a win over Mountain View United.

Newly-promoted Meadhaven on four points host a Barbican team also on four points in a match that could go either way.

Last year's semi-finalists JDF are currently in fifth position on four points but will have to be wary of the dangerous Greenwich Town on two points in eighth spot.

In the bottom-of-the-table clash, Rae Town, on one point, should use their home advantage and secure their first win of the season over the pointless Shortwood United.
