Jamaican wine lover's utopia
published: Sunday | December 4, 2005

Bottles of Lascelles Wines and Spirits products were on display at a showcase of their new products for the Christmas season. The showcase was held at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel, Knutsford Boulevard, New Kingston on Wednesday.

Daviot Kelly, Staff Reporter

IT WAS a wine lover's utopia at the Pegasus on Wednesday November 30 as Lascelles presented its International Wines and Spirits Showcase.

Wines from the United States, New Zealand, Germany, Italy, Argentina, Chile, Australia, South Africa and France were all laid out for guests to taste. Bottles and bottles of fine liquor were poured as wine aficionados as well as the casual drinker satisfied their cravings and curiosity. And with this being the silly season, there was ample reason and opportunity to get a few bottles for your personal collection when it's time to host that Christmas party.

But I digress. Whether it was the fruity taste of the German Liebfraumilch, the light-bodied feel of Italy's Pinot Grigio or the citrus flavour of the Moreau and Fils Sauvignon Blanc from France, all were enjoyed with plenty of cheese to cleanse the palate every time. This was all under the night sky at the Top Of The World suite with the music of Dr. Carol Ball on keyboard and Nicholas Laraque on flute. The Lascelles team provided guests with literature describing the wines and even giving suggestions as to what meals go well with these lovely libations.

Even though this was an evening for wines, they don't call it Lascelles Wines and Spirits just for show. Other potent potables included some strong Cognac, Cream Liqueurs like Sangster's and the Edwin Charley Proprietor's Collection of luxury rums, which were launched earlier this year. After all that alcohol, hopefully everyone made it home in one piece.

Guests included Michael Anthony Cuffe; J. Paul Morgan; Sheldon Codner; Michael Edwards; Norma Harrack; Simon Crosskill; Tony Scott; Aubyn and Tamara Hill; Ana Treasure; Robert MacMillan; Ueli Bangerter and Trevor Riley.
