BARBICAN AND Rae Town covered themselves in glory after capturing the Sherwin Williams Super and A League titles in contrasting styles at the Constant Spring Complex yesterday.

Barbican, with a 2-0 first leg advantage, easily held Harbour View to a drab 0-0 draw, registering a 2-0 aggregate win in the Premier League.

Barbican pocketed $125,000 for a successful season while Harbour View, the knockout champions, collected $75,000 for their second-place effort.

Winning coach Charles Edwards said his plan "was to come out and counter Harbour View as much as possible and try and a get a goal early to put them on the back foot. But Harbour View came out very spiritedly and put up a very good showing".

Vin Blaine, coach of Harbour View, once again the losing coach, said it was always going to be difficult to overcome the first-leg deficit.

"Barbican had a 2-0 lead which means we would have to score early, and once that did not happen it became more difficult for us," Blaine said.

HARD-FOUGHT DRAW

Meanwhile, Rae Town captured the A League title after playing to a hard fought 1-1 draw with Maverley, winning the encounter 3-2 on aggregate.

Trailing 2-1 from the first leg, Maverley quickly wiped away the one-goal deficit as Latoya Daley struck in the 26th minute to level the tie 2-2 on aggregate.

But 12 minutes from time, Sodea Lewis equalised for Rae Town when her long-range freekick fell through the grasp of the Maverley custodian Deborah Chambers and into the goal.

Trailing 3-2 on aggregate, Maverley threw everything at Rae Town but could not find the all-important goal and the game ended 1-1.
