THE EDITOR, Sir:
HELP! HELP! Help! The lives of the citizens of Hampton Green, in the Spanish Town area, are now threatened by the dangerous disease 'leptospirosis', because of the deplorable and unattended condition that exists on certain premises in the area.
DUMPING OF SOLID WASTE
The property, which is a large area, is used for dumping of solid waste on a daily basis by non-residents.
Things such as dead dogs and garbage of all sorts are usually placed in plastic bags and even crocus bags, attracting flies, crows, and giving off an offensive odour; it's also a habitat for rodents.
The area is also a haven for undesirables who prey upon unsuspecting persons going about their legitimate business. Citizens are now complaining that their homes are infested by rats (as big as mongoose), cockroaches and scorpions, thus posing a threat of this deadly disease.
We are appealing to the relevant authorities such as the Public Health Department and the Parish Council to address this very serious problem as quickly as possible.
I am, etc.,
