JMMB's Chief Risk Officer, Aaron X. Hou. - FILE

JMMB'S CHIEF Risk Officer, Aaron X. Hou, has been appointed as the new regional director of the Global Association of Risk Professionals (GARP), Jamaica Chapter.

The GARP is a non-profit independent association of risk management practitioners and researchers representing banks, investment management firms, government regulatory bodies, academic institutions, corporations and other financial organisations. With approximately forty-eight thousand members, the GARP is recognised as the premier organisation for risk managers around the world.

WHERE HIS CAREER BEGAN

Mr. Hou's association with GARP began in 2003 when he taught Quantitative Finance at Baruch College and was an active member in the GARP New York chapter. His career began at the Bank of China and has included positions with Morgan Stanley Dean Witter Inc. and Raymond James Financial Associates Inc.

Mr. Hou is an accredited financial risk manager (FRM), a chartered financial analyst (CFA) and has a Bachelor's degree in Economics and International Business from Shanghai International Studies University. He has also taught courses at the University of West Indies, Mona Campus. He joined the JMMB team in September 2003.

PERSONAL HONOUR

In expressing his delight with the recent accomplishment Mr. Hou stated, "Through the chapter, I intend to interact with risk professionals in the industry, increase the standards and share global best practices. I believe the appointment is not only a personal honour but is also a compliment to the outstanding level of expertise within the JMMB Group."

The GARP expressed their confidence in Mr. Hou by stating, "Aaron is committed to providing a platform for risk and investment professionals and to improve the risk management standards in the region."

Further support came from GARP president, Richard Apostolik who noted, "The new chapter in Jamaica will give us [GARP] our first presence in the Caribbean and will provide an important point of contact for members in the region".
