KINGSTOWN, St Vincent (CMC):
WITH THREE days left to go before general election, Opposition Leader Arnhim Eustace on Sunday said he had "absolutely no confidence whatsoever" in the country's Supervisor of Elections, Rodney Adams.
"None whatsoever!" reiterated Eustace, in an interview with the Caribbean Media Corporation (CMC).
The leader of the New Democratic Party (NDP) said his party was particularly concerned about the fact that voter registration had taken place in the homes of the registering officers.
"I wrote the Supervisor of Elections on the matter, he told me that is not a problem, he used to do it when he was the registering officer," Eustace said, accusing Adams of political bias and questioned his suitability for the job of Elections Supervisor.
ADAMS CRITICISED
Eustace also criticised Adams for recent comments made on national radio in which he sought to suggest that unidentified persons who had set their dogs on enumerators were NDP supporters.
"How does he know that in a particular household that it is an NDP supporter that set the dog on people?" questioned Eustace.
He also claimed that almost all of the registering officers for the 2005 poll were selected by the government, rather than the elections chief.
"So the process has become more politicised and much more partisan than ever - any other time in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. The ballots are stored in the minister's office rather than the usual place and these are serious matters for us," he said.
