THE EDITOR, Sir:
DESPITE THE negative impact Jamaica might portray internationally, with murders and gang-related crimes prominent, the country continues to take centrestage worldwide. In the edition of The Gleaner on Monday, November 14, one item stated, "The island pocketed the coveted Caribbean Cruise Destination Leading Tourist And Convention Bureau and Region Top Airline award."
This award is considered the world's most comprehensive travel award. The Jamaica Tourist Board, Air Jamaica, and the Port Authority of Jamaica were the proud recipients. Jamaica, a country with a population of just over two and a half million, has shown the world that we can produce the positives, not only in football, cricket, athletics, reggae music, and a strong cultural heritage.
Kudos to the Government agencies, the Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica and individuals who worked tirelessly to make this proud achievement possible. Not only is this a reality, but also a matter of national pride.
