ZARA STEPHENSON and Asha Adamson were selected as the first Super Fashion Faces of the World from a crop of 35 finalists who vied for the title last Sunday night at the Altamont Court Hotel's Roof Terrace in New Kingston.
The two were named winners of the model search held by Zahni International Model Management. As winners, the two are promised a contract with Zahni International valued at $300,000, and airline tickets to see agents in South Africa, New York, London and a number of other locations.
The show had started an hour late due to last-minute adjustments to the lighting and other aspects of the show. Eventually, however, things kicked off with the introduction of the finalists. Strutting to the sounds of Mark Stephens, reggae violinist, the 20 female finalists wearing black two-piece outfits came on stage. The 25 male models came next wearing only black underpants.
FASHION SEGMENT
The show then moved into a fashion segment where competing models and other Zahni models showed off several outfits created by a number of local designers.
The designs of Marlon Bolton, Chris Pablo, Ray Lindo, Carl Sway, Yolande Bennette and Biggy where presented in the show.
The change between the fashion lines were slow and the entertainment provided by the aspiring dancehall artiste, Plenty, was not well received by a majority of the audience.
After Plenty's failed attempt at entertaining the crowd, the crop of models were reduced to the top 10 male and females. This group was eventually narrowed to six male finalists and five female finalists and finally the top three before the winners were announced.
Stephenson, who was discovered in the Black River leg of the search, said he always knew he was capable of modelling. "I always knew I had it in me. I am just feeling overwhelmed right now," he said.
"Fashion is something I love. It is not about money and I think it will definitely launch my career in the field," he said.
Adamson, who was discovered in Montego Bay, said she will work hard to establish herself in the industry.
