THE EDITOR, Sir:
IT WAS with great distress that I listened to the promo for FAME's road party scheduled for this weekend in Portmore.
This road party has become a great source of discomfort for all who live within a three-mile radius of the designated venue. Each time they have come to Portmore, entire communities, i.e., thousands of people, have had to go for an entire night without sleep and, therefore, end up falling asleep at the most inappropriate times and places on the following day, not to mention those who have headaches all day Sunday.
I live in Independence City and, therefore, suffer the brunt of the noise and vibrations from the sound system. My relatives in Garveymeade told me that they were also disturbed by the
volume on previous occasions. This is absolutely ridiculous and unacceptable.
An established organisation such as the RJR group should be more considerate of the public, and should also conform with the Night Noise Abatement Act by ending the party at 2 a.m., instead of waiting for the police to shut them down at 4 a.m., and then defiantly playing songs like' 'Nah lock off de dance!'
We can't tell FAME not to have their road party, but we can certainly demand that they play their music at a more tolerable level and turn it off by 2 a.m., as required by law.
I am, etc.,
