Wolmer's scrape past St George's
published: Wednesday | December 7, 2005

WOLMER'S BOYS did just enough to hold off a resilient St. George's, 62-59, as Southern Conference play in the KFC sponsored ISSA High School basketball competition continued yesterday at St. George's College.

The boys from Heroes Circle were champing at the bit and came flying out the gate. They immediately knocked St. George's on their heels by scoring four unanswered baskets. However, stunned St. George's recovered.

CUT HARD TO BASKET

Shane Williams, who top scored in the encounter with 22 points and pulled down eight rebounds, cut hard to basket, not only keeping his team in the game but getting Wolmer's into early foul trouble. George's would pull within three points of the lead as the first quarter came to a 19-16 close. Wolmer's would once again extend the lead at the start of the second, but a battling St George's would not quit and by halftime nothing separated the teams as they played to a 33-33 scoreline.

The teams exchanged leads in the third quarter, but a Wolmer's run towards the end of the third and the beginning of the fourth would prove to be too much for George's to overcome. Kain Campbell top scored for the winners with a 18 points while also collecting nine rebound and six steals.

SOUTHERN CONFERENCE

Under 16: Wolmer's 39 St. George's 49, Tivoli 73 Dunoon 40.
Under 19: Wolmer's 62 St. George's 59.

WESTERN CONFERENCE
