Jamaicans shine at US meets

JAMAICA SENIOR representative Kayann Thompson and former junior Nickeisha Anderson were winners at various indoor track meets in the United States at the weekend.

Thomas was a double winner at the ASU Kick-Off Classic held at Arkansas State University in Jonesboro.

Representing Lindenwood University, Thompson won the 800m in 2:17.97 ahead of Taryn Phillips of SE Missouri (2:21.48) and Candice James of Arkansas State (2:29.61).

Thompson, a former Edwin Allen star, returned later to team up with her former national junior teammate Annakay Campbell to lead Lindenwood to victory in the women's mile relay.

Thompson, who ran the anchor leg, and Campbell, who handed over to her, and along with Shulieta Mechkarska and Lyndsey Eilers, clocked 4:06.41 ahead of their B team (4:15.08).

THIRD IN WOMEN'S HIGH JUMP

Campbell took third in the women's high jump with a leap of 1.67m, the same height as Carmia Carroll of Mississippi and Tracy Partain of Missouri State.

Campbell was also fourth in the long jump 5.40m and 12th in the 200m in 26.00 ahead Kimberly Mulkey of Mississippi (24.78).

Meanwhile, at the Oiler Opener held at the University of Findlay in Malcolm Athletic Center in Findlay, Carifta Games gold medallist Anderson won the 200m.

Anderson, of Missouri Baptist, was timed in 25.14 ahead of fellow Jamaican and Missouri Baptist teammate Sherline Duncan (25.47).

In the women's 60m, Anderson, a former Herbert Morrison student, finished second in 7.55 seconds ahead of former Edwin Allen athlete Duncan who was third (7.67). LaShonda Davis of Miami University won in 7.52.
