JOSE MARTI mercilessly hammered Campion 54-24 to notch their first win in three games as action in the 2005 KFC-sponsored ISSA High School Basketball competition's Southern Conference continued yesterday at Campion College.
Franseco Powell led the way for the winners with 14 points.
Outside of a close first quarter score of 9-6, Campion were able to offer very little resistance as they were completely out-hustled and out-muscled in both open court play and on the backboards.
Four straight baskets by Jose Marti with four minutes left to go in the second quarter saw them begin to break away, but Campion were able to keep themselves in the game from the free throw line.
A poor job defensively by Campion saw Jose Marti constantly able to push the ball up court and score easy transition baskets. They were also able to bully them on their backboards, which led to a number of easy second chance opportunities.
Even though they were careless with their possession of the basketball at times, Campion continued to miss easy opportunities to score and as a result failed to capitalise.
When Jose Marti scored eight straight points, six of which came from three straight Campion turnovers right at the beginning of the fourth quarter, the wind went out of the home team's sails and the game was pretty much over.
Kamardo Blake added 12 points for the winners, while Hardrian Christie had nine points and five rebounds in a losing effort.
Campion are yet to register a win for the season as they have now slumped to their third straight loss.
