THE EDITOR, Sir:IN THIS economic climate, school administrators have had to become creative financial wizards to provide quality for our young clients. Each year we prioritise until low priority problems become urgent. We repair what we must and put off what we can.
Each year the schools seek financial assistance from the same companies and sell tickets to the same people. Kudos to all the stakeholders in education who seem to understand that the physical needs of the schools will affect us directly or indirectly. The corporate community offers support whenever possible because they recognise the need to invest in their own future market and labour force. Active parents who are exposed to budgetary constraints shared at P.T.A. meetings tend to work feverishly with the schools. And students today are sophisticated enough to know what a healthy learning environment should look like.
To this end, Holy Childhood High School held its annual lapathon on Friday, November 25, dubbed 'The Holy Childhood Family Connection, Partners in Education', a title which aptly captured the essence of the event. Parents, teachers and students participated in a variety of fun activities.
TREMENDOUS SUPPORT
This was when I discovered that the Partnership in Education extended beyond this immediate Holy Childhood family. Corporate support was tremendous. The companies we approached neither flinched nor dodged. In fact they were more sensitive to the domestic issues of school management than I would have imagined. Conversations with Michael Ammar Jr.
(of Ammars) and Neil Martin (of Collectibles) left me particularly touched. There were those who could not help, but wanted to; we appreciate the sentiments and ideas shared with us.
Special thanks to Digicel, Ammars, Collectibles, Watts New and Extra's for all their support. These companies offered their assistance without negotiating for public recognition. They are truly positive community activists. We wish you all and your staff a prosperous and blessed New Year.
I am, etc.,
