JP IDs should be accepted
published: Saturday | December 10, 2005

THE EDITOR, Sir:

ON NOVEMBER 1, I was on Red Hills Road when I received a call on my cellphone from my sister in New York instructing me to go to the Western Union money transfer to collect some money. I was in walking distance from the one located at Extra Super Market.

The girl in the cashier enclosure asked me for my Western Union card and my ID, I produced the only ID I had on me which was the Justice of the Peace one. She handed it back to me and said only the passport and driver's licence are accepted.

I would think that a Justice of the Peace ID would be accepted anywhere in Jamaica. I am willing to bet that anyone who has commission of a Notary Public in the United States would be respected.

I am, etc.,

C. DONALD DENNY, JP
