Vaz new deputy treasurer of Jamaica Labour Party (JLP)
published: Monday | December 12, 2005

DARYL VAZ is the new deputy treasurer of the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) after defeating the incumbent Kent Gammon at the party's Belmont Road Headquarters, yesterday.

Mr. Vaz was elected at the party's annual post conference elections.

Speaking with The Gleaner after his appointment, Mr. Vaz says his involvement in fund-raising during the recent deputy leader race contributed to his victory. "I've helped the party on several occasions in an informal manner and I decided to formalise it cause you're going to need to make sure you have something as a critical part of any future campaign," said Mr. Vaz.

The new deputy secretary says he believes most of the party members are supportive of him but says, "We need everybody in order to be successful so any personality conflict or whatever has to be settled because the fact of the matter is that we need everybody on board."

MEADOWS ELECTED DEPUTY FENERAL SECRETARY

Meanwhile Dennis Meadows staved off the challenge of Tom Tavares-Finson to be elected as deputy general secretary. The incumbent Clive Mullings did not seek re-election.

The other deputy general secretaries are Andre Franklyn, Dr. Ronald Robinson, and Joel Williams.

Chairman Dr. Kenneth Baugh, his deputy Ruddy Spencer and general secretary Karl Samuda were returned unopposed.
