WESTERN BUREAU:
WADADAH FC and Constant Spring both failed in their bid to improve their standing in the 2005-06 Wray and Nephew National Premier League football competition yesterday afternoon when they played to a lacklustre 1-1 draw in the clash of the 'cellar dwellers' at Jarrett Park, in Montego Bay.
Carl Brown gave Constant Spring the lead midway the first half, but his effort was cancelled out three minutes later by Wadadah's striker Jermaine 'Tuffy' Anderson.
By virtue of the one point each team got from the contest, Constant Spring remain in bottom place on eight points, while Wadadah stayed one place ahead of them on 13 points.
"This is a game that we should have won easily because we not only took the lead but we also got many other chances to score," said a disappointed Constant Spring coach Danny Lyn. "And as if wasting easy chances was not enough, we turned around and gave up a soft goal."
Wadadah's coach Anthony 'Follies' Williams said the result was probably a fair one for his team because they have not been preparing properly and as a consequence were low on confidence. According to him, they have no suitable training facilities at their disposal.
"We can't plant corn and expect to reap peas," said Williams. "We have not had a proper training session in the longest while. The only times my players see a goal-post is when they come to matches."
The game, which was seriously lacking in quality, saw Wadadah having the early advantage but failing to capitalise on the chances that came their way as Anderson nodded wide from four yards and three minutes later, Daniel Rickettes fumbled badly with the goalkeeper at his mercy.
Constant Spring took the lead with their first attack on goal in the 24th minute. On a brisk counter attack Brown found himself with a clear shot on goal. He made no mistake, firing past goalkeeper Gavine Barrett to make the score 1-0.
Wadadah bounced back in the 27th minute and drew level when Anderson made up for his earlier miss. He latched onto a through pass from Rickettes and with a clear shot on goal, drove home powerfully to formalise what was to be the game's final scoreline 1-1.
The Constant Spring team continued to enjoy the better of the action and all but grabbed full points on the stroke of full time when Christopher Currie struck a savage 25-yard free kick which had goalkeeper Barrett making a brilliant diving save, going full stretch to his left.
